Liberty Batteries
The warranty covers manufacturing defects that occur during normal use. Damage caused as a result of abuse or misuse or non-intended use is not covered. If the battery is left in a discharged state for more than two weeks, (i.e. left in the boot of a car in extreme temperatures) the BMS (Battery Management System) may prevent charging. If this occurs please consult Liberty Batteries for advice.

The standard Liberty Batteries warranty covers purchases made in the UK and Republic of Ireland and use of the battery and charger within this area. If you encounter a problem with your battery or charger within the warranty period, please contact us so that we can help you to fix the problem. (please include a copy of the invoice as proof of purchase)
If your battery or charger cannot be repaired and a replacement is offered, the balance of the original warranty shall apply to that product. The warranty contained herein is an additional benefit and does not affect your statutory rights as a consumer.

The manufacturers guarantee cannot be transferred and only applies to the original user of the battery. The manufacturers guarantee commences from the date of purchase.
The manufactures guarantee does not affect the statutory rights of the consumer in any way.

Non-Manufacturing Faults
We will not replace batteries that have failed due to misuse and we would recommend you read the following guide.

Battery problems - Non-manufacturing faults

Sulphation:
If a battery is allowed to stand in a discharged state for an excessive amount of time, a chemical reaction takes place, which can permanently impair performance of the battery - this is called sulphation.
Sulphation can be seen as a fine white/grey coating on the plates of the battery. In most cases this signifies irreversible damage and the battery will not be serviceable. This damage can occur either in storage or if the battery is installed in a vehicle (or equipment) that is not used for a period of time, for example a tractor, motorcycle, or boat. Even a car or truck that is stored with the battery connected can still damage the battery in this way. This is because there is a permanent drain on the battery from devices on the vehicle such as the clock, alarm etc. As a result the level of charge in a car battery falls, and after a period of time sulphation will build up on the plates.

The sulphation (lead sulphate) hinders the chemical reaction between the acid (electrolyte) and the active mass (lead compound) in the plates and prevents the car battery from operating as normal.

Wear and Tear:
During the charge and discharge cycle, material from the battery plates (active mass) is in motion, through the electrochemical reaction that produces electricity. Every time the battery goes through a charge and discharge cycle, a small amount of the active mass is lost from the plates. Because the ultimate life of a car battery depends on so many factors, it is difficult to stipulate a minimum/maximum life expectancy. This process of normal ageing through the charge and discharge cycle will eventually cause the battery to lose capacity, and there come to the point where the battery can no longer start the vehicle/equipment. A battery only has a finite number of cycles (x) it can go through before it loses its capacity to perform. Vehicles with high usage such as taxi’s, minicabs, trucks, and buses will often subject the battery to its x number of cycles but over a much shorter time. As a result, batteries on these vehicles can display the above symptoms after 12-24 months.

Deep cycling:
As above, every time a battery goes through a charge and discharge cycle a small amount of the material from the plates is lost. If a battery is subjected to deep discharging (i.e. over 40%) and then rapid charging, this process is accelerated. Additionally, if during the recharge the battery is not adequately compensated for the discharge cycle, the battery will quickly exhibit loss of performance. Even after recharging the voltage will be low (under 12.4v) but the cells will generally give even readings.

Overcharging:
If the regulator is not set properly, then the battery can be subjected to an excessive charge. If left unchecked the battery will overheat and will start to evaporate the electrolyte. The overcharging will cause the accelerated breakup of the active mass on the plates and the battery will lose performance. This is generally obvious from the examination of the battery - the acid levels will be very low, and quite often a black coating will be visible on the filler caps.

Physical damage:
If the battery is fitted incorrectly, if the connector leads are hammered onto the terminals, or if the leads are not properly fastened, the battery will have obvious damage to the casing or the terminals.

Motorcycle Jet Ski and ATV batteries
Motorcycle Jet Ski and ATV batteries advertised on Lake Battery Website are designed to be used on equipment as specified by the manufacturer. Batteries are supplied as replacement is guaranteed against failure due to faulty manufacture or materials. In the event of such a failure, the battery will be replaced. The replacement battery will then be guaranteed for the remainder or the original battery guarantee period. The guarantee periods are as follows: Motorcycle Jet ski and ATV batteries 1 Year

The guarantee does not cover:
• Use of a battery on a vehicle unit for which it is not recommended or on which it has been installed and commissioned incorrectly.
• Failure or deterioration resulting from the malfunction of any charging system.
The manufacturers guarantee cannot be transferred and only applies to the original user of the battery. The manufacturers guarantee commences from the date of purchase.
The manufactures guarantee does not affect the statutory rights of the consumer in any way.
The Waste Batteries and Accumulators Regulations
Under the Waste Battery Regulations, Lake Batteries are now offering a take back scheme for all portable waste batteries
You can return your waste batteries in person by appointment only, please contact us on 0191 4151333. (Please do not post).
Alternatively, you can find your local waste portable battery recycling facility at www.recyclenow.com

You can now recycle your old electrical items with us.

If you’re buying a new electrical item, we will recycle your old one for free
Why recycle? Unwanted electrical equipment is the UKs fastest growing type of waste.
Many electrical items can be repaired or recycled, saving natural resources and the environment. If you do not recycle, electrical equipment will end up in landfill where hazardous substances will leak out and cause soil and water contamination – harming wildlife and also human health.

We can help
We are pleased to offer our customers the chance to recycle their old electrical items.
You can return your old electrical items in person by appointment only, please contact us on 0191 4151333.

To remind you that old electrical equipment can be recycled, it is now marked with a crossed-out wheeled bin symbol. Please do not throw any electrical equipment (including those marked with the crossed out wheeled bin symbol) in your bin.

What is WEEE?
The Waste Electrical or Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive requires countries to maximise separate collection and environmentally friendly processing of these items. In the UK, distributors (including retailers) must provide a system which allows all customers buying new electrical equipment the opportunity to recycle their old items free of charge. Those establishing their own take-back scheme must as a minimum offer all customers buying new electrical equipment free take back of their old electrical items on a like-for-like basis.

Find more information on WEEE recycling, and locate your local recycling centre, at recyclenow.com
